Environmentally Friendly Living

This year, I have been retrofitting a dolls house into an interactive, environmentally friendly home display.

In the UK, buildings are responsible for around 23% of total greenhouse gas emissions. Decarbonising the built environment is essential for meeting the UK’s legally-binding climate target of net-zero emissions by 2050.

This display will help Hinckley & Rugby Building Society inform homeowners of the different green home retrofit solutions and technologies currently available. We hope this will encourage people to consider implementing these solutions in their own homes, helping them to live a greener lifestyles.

The display features:

💡 A working solar panel that connects to an LED light bulb

💨 Air source heat pump

🚗 Electric car charging station

♻️ Recycling bins - with an added game

🪴 Water butt and compost bin

🌬 Wind turbine

🧦🐠 Clothes line and a pond for wildlife

🥕 Green house - with felt vegetables

🧣 Wall insulation - removable for demonstration

🧩 Underfloor heating - a jigsaw puzzle

🫖 Energy efficient appliances

🪟Double glazed windows - removeable for demonstration

⭕️ Spot the difference and fun facts

All topped off with a great EPC rating!

I’ve tried to make everything fun, engaging and, interactive so when we take this events/schools, children can get involved.

I have honestly loved making every little thing that has gone into this house, finding recycled materials and buying second hand to keep in the spirit of eco friendly living.

This was showcased at the Burbage Common Open Day on Sunday 8th May and was the biggest attraction! 🏡🌎
